Congratulations to Jacobine for her paper “Incorporation of Ln-Doped LaPO₄ Nanocrystals as Luminescent Markers in Silica Nanoparticles” that was just published in Nanoscale Research Letters. In this letter, Jacobine presents her work on the synthesis of rare-earth-doped Lanthanide ion nanocrystals of 4 to 8 nm in size. She also shows that she can control the grow of a silica sphere around this core. Both on their own, as well inside the silica sphere, these cores show sharp emission lines from the dopant europium and terbium, thus providing unique optical labels for silica nanoparticles.
